Even though all my teams lost (Braves lost the series against the Phillies in MLB, Alabama lost against Tennessee in college football, Miami lost against Minnesota in the NFL,the Lakers got blasted in their last preseason game, oh and I lost my intramural basketball game too!), it was still another really entertaining weekend of sports.

MLB

Phillies after a score

The playoffs finally got underway in baseball after about 500 regular season games for each team. In the National League, both the Phillies and the Padres pulled off upsets to beat the last two World Series champions in the Braves and the Dodgers. The Phillies and Padres will now face off against each other to see who represents the National League in the World series. In the American League, the Houston Astros swept the Mariners in 3 games. They are waiting on the winner of the NY Yankees and Cleveland Guardians, whose series is tied at 2-2 headed into game 5 on Tuesday.

NFL

Mariota carries it in for a score

Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes faced off this weekend, with Buffalo coming out on top. Now Buffalo (5-1) has the advantage head to head for home field advantage in the playoffs. We have a bunch of average teams right now but the Philadelphia Eagles are 6-0 thanks to Jalen Hurts and company. And the NY Giants and Minnesota Vikings are both 5-1. Tampa Bay and Green Bay are struggling as of now. Will it last?

College Football

Michigan looked impressive with it’s take down of then #10 Penn State with a 41-17 thrashing. Tennessee also took down Alabama in the matchup of two top 6 teams. The top 5 teams in the AP poll are (1) Georgia, (2)Ohio St, (3)Tennessee, (4)Michigan & (5)Clemson.

NBA

The NBA starts Tuesday night. It could be a wide open race. I have no faith in my Lakers right now though. They haven’t shown me much during the pre-season other than AD sitting out because of physical limitations, AGAIN. Brooklyn looks like they could be good. Milwaukee is always lurking with Giannis and company. The Suns will need to make a trade or two or they won’t compete this year. Golden State still has the culture, rings, vets and talent to win another championship. Should be another fun season for the basketball heads.

So after you go to work, take care of the family and pay some bills, let’s enjoy another fun week of sports. Talk to ya soon.
